What: Are you looking to improve student performance in Immersion programs? Are you looking for ways to ensure Immersion students achieve to their academic potential? This session will focus on improving and maintaining academic success in language immersion programs. We will have tips from long-time school leaders, networking time with other leaders in Immersion programs and a brief review of current research in bilingual education. The focus is to give concrete and practical ways to ensure all students achieve to their potential in language immersion programs.

Questions that this session will address are:

·         What do the best performing immersion schools do?

·         What are ways to help struggling students in immersion programs?

·         What is the role of culture education in immersion programs?

·         How do we keep students in immersion?

·         What are the advantages of immersion education?

WhyThe goal for this event is two-fold;

Firstly, participants will both learn new ideas through the presentation they are part of and contribute to one-another’s learning through table discussions.    The second goal of the event is to foster the development of an ongoing conversation between school leadership teams in the French Immersion community of the greater Edmonton area.  This event will be the first in a series of professional learning opportunities that will form an ongoing dialogue for French Immersion leaders in the Edmonton area.

Who should attendThis day has been crafted to help French Immersion school leadership teams, lead teachers, learning coaches, consultants and coordinators to refine their vision and expand their repertoire of skills for co-creating French Immersion learning ecosystems that maximize student performance and growth.  District leaders, principals, assistant principals, and teacher-leaders are most welcome to attend. School leadership teams will return to their schools with a range of ideas that can be implemented right away to make a difference in their learning communities.
