Welcome to the Social Media and Teacher Learning conference website.
For almost 20 years, the Ontario Teachers’ Federation and its Affiliates - AEFO, ETFO, OECTA and OSSTF - have co-sponsored an annual conference on teacher education with the Ontario Association of Deans of Education (OADE). In past years, the conference has been a closed event, available almost solely to Faculty members at Ontario’s 15 publicly-assisted faculties/schools of education and the Federation members who serve in a liaison capacity at those institutions. This year, we are departing from past practice, and are offering an event that is open to participants across the province and elsewhere.
The Social Media and Teacher Learning conference will bring together both practitioners and academics to discuss emerging trends in the use of social media - in the preparation of beginning teachers, in teaching practice, and in engaging students. We will also examine system impact and concerns brought about by the ubiquitous use of social media in today’s schools.
We are using a broad understanding of the term “social media”, as articulated in the following definitions:
Social media are media for social interaction, using highly accessible and scalable publishing techniques. Social media use web-based technologies to transform and broadcast media monologues into social media dialogues. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_media
The official Twitter hashtag for the conference is #otfoade
