When anxiety is lowered, care begins.
MindfulGarden is an interactive digital platform that reduces anxiety and aggression in our first patient group of frail elderly experiencing hyperactive delirium/dementia. Using patient-generated input (movement, vocalization, vital signs), screen-based visualizations are output that calm aggressive and disruptive behaviours in seniors, thereby allowing care to begin sooner.   A 2016 proof-of-concept at Peace Arch Hospital demonstrated that patients introduced to MindfulGarden were calmed without use of drugs or restraints, were administered treatment more expediently and cost-effectively, and were discharged from hospital earlier than forecast on admission. A clinical study is scheduled for late Fall 2017.
