Teaching Inquiry through Science and Physics! Exploring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) (Grades 9-12)

Facilitators: James Ball & Saara Naudts

July 6-8, London

Brief Description
Engage in an active learning experience to discover new ways to engage students. Learn to implement classroom practices that will foster conceptual understanding of science and physics concepts, and explore mathematics in context to science and physics.

Detailed Description
In this Summer Institute, participants will be learning to implement classroom practices that will foster conceptual understanding of science and physics concepts.  Teachers will explore mathematics in context to science and physics.  The use of technology at the point of instruction and at the point of learning will be explored as teachers engage in active learning experiences to discover new ways to engage students for learning.  Physics education provides a way to explore the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Process.  During this Summer Institute, the STEM Process will be deconstructed and practiced to enhance any classroom. By the end of this Summer Institute, participants will know how to scaffold their classroom practices to develop conceptual understanding of physics and science concepts and be able to implement classroom practices that will engage students for learning in an integrated program that uses mathematical thinking and problem solving and technology.
