Due to the imminent closure of their local landfill, the Mississaugas of New Credit First Nation have developed an RFP for garbage and recycling services from which an MTA will be negotiated. In addition, the First Nation is currently developing an Operations Manual and administrative policy on solid waste. This policy details what solid waste services are provided and what is expected from each sector of the community - residential, commercial, administrative/institutional - and for each component of the solid waste stream including residual garbage, blue box recyclables, waste electronics, hazardous wastes, etc. This is one of the first solid waste management policies developed as a component of the First Nation administrative policy and aims to make clear to all residents and businesses what services are available and who is responsible for what in terms of solid waste.
