Hydro One delivers electricity safely, reliably and responsibly to homes and businesses across the province of Ontario and owns and operates Ontario's 29,000 km high-voltage transmission network that delivers electricity to large industrial customers and municipal utilities, and a 122,000 km low-voltage distribution system that serves about 1.3 million end-use customers and smaller municipal utilities in the province.
The First Nations Market Housing Fund (the Fund) is the first national fund created to support financing arrangements for housing on reserve, as well as settlement lands and lands set aside where appropriate, while respecting the communal ownership of land. The Fund’s Credit Enhancement Facility is a new approach to expand market-based housing on reserve by providing easier access to homeownership, rental and renovation loans in First Nation communities.
The Fund also has capacity development supports to strengthen First Nation communities in areas such as financial management, governance, lands, housing management and economic development. The Fund does not charge any fees for its services.
The Fund is currently working with more than 189 First Nations across Canada. The Fund has approved more than $775 million in credit for an estimated 5,000 home loans, and has paid for more than 800 capacity development initiatives in just seven short years.
