If you need overnight accommodations, we encourage you to book a room as soon as possible. A limited number of hotel rooms are being held at the Chelsea at $135.00 per night, a special rate for Symposium participants. You can book your accommodations at the Chelsea by calling the hotel directly at 1-800-243-5732. You must identify yourself as part of the Ontario Education Research Symposium to receive the group rate.
Note: February 9, 2018 is the special rate deadline. After this date, the rooms and rate will be subject to availability.
COSTS & TRAVEL / ACCOMMODATION REIMBURSEMENT
There is no charge to attend the Ontario Education Research Symposium.
Most meals (continental breakfast and buffet lunch on March 1 & 2 and receptions on February 28 & March 1) and all Symposium materials are provided. You will need to make your own dinner arrangements for February 28 & March 1.
Please note that overnight accommodations (both reservation and payment) are the responsibility of the individual participant, as are any travel expenses and incidentals. Potential claims for reimbursement should be made through each participant's home organization. Should the organization seek reimbursement from the Ministry of Education, travel and accommodations are reimbursed only when a participant travels more than 100 km (one way) to attend the event. The Ministry of Education will reimburse only the preferred rate for accommodation.
Invoices must be submitted by the home organization to the Ministry of Education within 30 days of the event, with original receipts.
TRAVEL INFORMATION
The Chelsea is conveniently located in the downtown area and is accessible via taxi or transit from Toronto's major international airport.
From Pearson International Airport
Pearson Airport is approximately 30 km and 30 minutes west of the city centre. Airport limousine services and taxis are located on the ground level of Terminal 1 and the arrivals level at Terminal 3. Fares average approximately C$50.
Driving from Pearson Airport
- Head east and follow signs to Highway 409 East. Take Exit 1 and travel to Highway 427 or 401.
- Exit onto 427 South to 401 West. Keep left and follow signs for Gardiner Expressway/Toronto and merge onto Gardiner Expressway East.
- Take the Spadina Avenue exit.
- Turn left onto Lower Spadina Avenue.
- Turn right onto Adelaide Street.
- Turn left onto University Avenue.
- Turn right onto Gerrard Street. Chelsea Hotel is on the right.
Public Transit
The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) offers 24-hour service from Pearson Airport.
The most efficient route for arrivals between 5am and 2am is the 192 Airport Rocket, which connects with the subway at Kipling Station on the Bloor-Danforth line (Line 2).
To reach the Chelsea Hotel, board the eastbound train to Bloor-Yonge Station. Once at Bloor-Yonge, transfer to the southbound platform and take the train to Dundas Station. Exit the station, walk north on Yonge Street, and turn left at Gerrard Street. The Chelsea Hotel is on the left. An adult fare for the TTC is $3.25.
GO Transit also offers airport express buses to York Mills and Yorkdale TTC stations from Terminal 1. Buses depart every 60 minutes and fares are approximately $7.00.
Union Pearson Express Train
UP Express connects the country's two busiest transportation hubs, Toronto Pearson International Airport and Union Station in downtown Toronto.
UP Express departs from both Union Station and Toronto Pearson International Airport every 15 minutes and the journey takes just 25 minutes. Standard adult fares are $12.35 one way or $24.70 round trip. Visit

From Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport
A tunnel connects passengers from Billy Bishop Airport to Toronto's west end (or you can take the ferry!). The Chelsea Hotel is a 10-15 minute taxi ride from the ferry terminal.
Parking Directions
Guests Self-Parking - $34.00 per night plus taxes, unlimited in and out privileges.
Guests Valet Parking - $44.00 per night plus taxes, unlimited in and out privileges.
Daily Self-Parking Rate - $18.00 plus taxes from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Underground parking entrance is located on the south side of Gerrard Street in front of the hotel’s Gerrard Street lobby entrance. Please note that the underground hotel parking has a maximum height restriction of 5 feet, 5 inches.
