Northern Silviculture Committee 2018 Fall Field Tour
Forest practices innovation in the Northwest BC Interior-Coastal Transition :
On-the-ground innovation for a changing timber landbase and climate
The NSC field tour this year will feature visits to sites at two different locations in Northwestern British Columbia – Hazelton and Terrace.
Day 1 will feature stops at the Date Creek Research Forest where we will benefit from almost 30 years of research related to partial cutting systems and the impacts on ecosystem function, biological diversity, hydrology, wildlife habitat and wood production. The first day of the tour will also include a visit to a species trial established in 1988 and a discussion on assisted migration of non-native tree species into the ICHmc subzone.
Day 2 of the tour will be based out of Terrace and will feature stops and discussions on silviculture techniques in older harvest/pre-harvest second growth stands to create habitat for species requiring old-growth attributes, and commercial thinning in second growth stands.
