CDSP is a support program for children experiencing a work-related separation.
Children will learn a variety of positive living skills and age-appropriate stress management strategies to
help them with their deployment situation.
Who Qualifies for Children's Deployment Support?
Deployment Support Services are extended to families who have a soldier away
(due to regular training, exercise, temporary duty, special tasking, field exercises, courses,
being posted on an imposed restriction, and of course, overseas missions).
To be eligible, the deployed member must have filled out a Deployment Information Form,
complete with family particulars, prior to their departure (during their DAG/pre-deployment readiness process).
The Children's Deployment Virtual Support Program (CDSP) is a peer support program designed to provide school-aged children (from JK to Grade 8) with appropriate information on the feelings and reactions experienced by the prolonged absence of a parent.

The program was designed to normalize the deployment situation for children and teach them positive living skills that will help them cope with the challenges of deployment and other stressors they may experience in their day to day lives

Families can enroll in the CDSP when they are experiencing a work-related separation (deployment, tasking or course). The program consists of 3 semesters, and each semester you will receive access to pre-recorded videos that you and your children can work through on your own time; one check in Zoom session per month where your children can ask questions or express their feelings; and a CDSP Learning Box filled with the supplies that our children will need to work through the sessions.

New this year!  To help ensure the health and safety of our families and staff, CDSP will be offered 100% virtually this year. Families will continue to receive the tools and support resources they need- both for parents and children- online, with flexible programming that fits their family schedule.

As always, the sessions will focus on anxiety reduction, positive living skills and recognition of emotions through fun, play-based activities.

Also new this year!  Children can write letters to Draco the Dragon, our CDSP support mascot, talking about their feelings and experiences. Draco will read the letters "anonymously" during the Zoom sessions and the children can participate in some brainstorming and discussion about coping, problem solving and how to support each other.
Upon submission you will receive an email confirming that your request has been received.
Your member's deployment/absence will be verified using the Deployment family info form.
Please note information provided to the Petawawa Military Family Resource Centre regarding your children is confidential. This information will only be shared when written consent is provided by the parent.
