1. SDB will offer 3 travel awards this year, one to each of the best: undergrad (new addition), grad and postdoc. Each carries an award of up to $1,000 USD for reimbursement of expenses spent at the SDB 2020 Annual Meeting in Chicago, July 9-13. They all must be current SDB members by the time of abstract submission. The award is NOT deferrable.
Only student and postdoc members who are current (2020 dues paid) members at the time of the regional meeting registration deadline (Jan 15 2020) are eligible for these awards. Note that concurrent submission of a new membership application and meeting registration will NOT qualify a participant for this competition, whether done on site or in advance. As described below, it takes ~2 weeks for a new membership application to be processed.
The national office will provide a list of the current members to the regional organizers. People who join the Society after registration or winning the best presentation competition will not be eligible for this travel award to the annual meeting. This is a benefit for members in good standing!
Details on the benefits of membership and the application form can be found on the website link below. Please note that membership fees are low ($20 USD for students and $45 USD for postdocs)! https://www.sdbonline.org/membership
This award is non-deferrable. In the event of impossibility for the winner to travel to the annual meeting, the travel award will be conferred to the runner-up. Since the 2020 annual meeting will not be in Canada, the winners are responsible for securing their visa, if required, in a timely manner.
2. The CDBC will provide travel awards of $500 to top poster and oral presentations by trainees.
