Canadian Firearms Safety Course

19/20 January 2018

The Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC) is an introductory course intended for all new firearms users, as well as for those who wish to better familiarize themselves with the safe handling of firearms.

Individuals under 18 years old must file a consent form signed by one parent or guardian before attending the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course.  A consent form is available at this link: Consent Form.

The course is designed to familiarize students with the safe, effective, and responsible handling of firearms and ammunition.  The course covers the basic parts of a firearm, proper loading and unloading of the non-restricted firearm, proper shooting positions for discharging non-restricted firearms, safe storage and transportation of non-restricted firearms, in addition to carrying a firearm safely.

The course is structured to provide a minimum 10 hours of classroom instruction, using disabled non-restricted firearms and dummy ammunition for practical handling sessions.  No live ammunition or active firearms are permitted in the classroom and no live-firing is conducted.

All students will receive the opportunity at several points during the course to handle, load, and unload various non-restricted firearm actions, and will be instructed on how to safely handle these firearms with hands on supervision from a qualified instructor.

This course will provide current information and safe handling practices for non-restricted firearms which will better prepare students for the mandatory tests, both written and practical handling, should the successful graduate choose to apply for a Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL).
